Jack Davies
Computer Science Undergraduate & Software Developer
About Me
I am a recent graduate in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham. I am passionate about technology and how it can be used to change the world. My journey through education has not been easy, but through determination, resilience and the support of those around me I have overcome incredible challenges and hurdles to achieve my goals, the most recent of which being graduating from University.
Extra-Curricular
I swam competitively for 11 years training up to 7 times a week. I qualified for national events winning medals in County Championships and receiving team medals in London Youth Games as well as Regional Championships. This taught me discipline and helped me develop the ability to perform under high amounts of pressure. At times I found this incredibly difficult, I learned a lot about myself and who I aspire to be as I continue to learn and grow.
Core Skills
I have experience in: Python, Java, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, C, C++, ARM Assembly and more
Featured Projects
Air Traffic Control Game
One of my favourite games to play as a child was called Runway by Rahul Biswas. Unfortunatley, it was taken off the App Store and Google Play Store in 2013. As I developed my skills as a programmer and began to make games, I decided to recreate this game so I could play it whenever I wanted as well as any others too, like my sister who loved to play it with me. I contacted the original developer and he gave me permission to recreate it. It can be found in a web version on my profile, and I'm in the process of uploading it to the Google Play Store.
Download the GameDissertation: A Game of Trust
For my third year dissertation project I was tasked with building a live-service multiplayer game that would quantify trust levels for each of the respective players. It encouraged players to play from each others perspectives and required teamwork and deception to win. I coded the client and server side in Java, and used an AWS EC2 instance to facilitate the multiplayer hosting. I received a 2:1 for my project's final result.
OS Process Logger
I developed a concurrent operating system process manager in C using semaphores and the pthreads library. This project strengthened my understanding of thread synchronisation and process control.
BJSS Software Consultancy
Working in a university team of 6, I helped build bespoke software for the BJSS IT consultancy firm. We are successfully tracking to deliver the final product on time and with all planned features.
